VICE-CAPTAIN Michael Clarke twice referred sticky questions relating to Australia's bowling strategy to his captain, Ricky Ponting, in an indication that communication lines between the team's leaders are not clear.

Asked why Andrew Symonds was not introduced until the 125th over, Clarke said: "I have no idea why he didn't come on until so late. I guess you'd probably have to ask Ricky that. I think obviously at the time he did get a bowl was when Ricky thought it was appropriate."

Clarke was also quizzed on the decision not to employ Simon Katich's left-arm wrist spinners.

"I think if he had have been asked to bowl, I think he would've done that. Again, probably another question for the Skip. I don't make the bowling selections."
