POLICE say they are pursuing positive lines of inquiry regarding an unsolved Caves Beach murder.

Stacey McMaugh, 41, and her partner Robert Pashkuss, 50, were bludgeoned to death in their Macquarie Grove home in January.

Weekend media reported a theory that the pair were brutally executed because of Mr Pashkuss's alleged double life as a drug dealer.

Police said yesterday a team of detectives from the homicide squad and Lake Macquarie local area command was committed to the investigation and identifying the people responsible for the couple's murder.

"We have already had some good feedback from the community and we are following some positive lines of inquiry," Detective Inspector Mark Newham said.

"They were both parents and their deaths have been devastating for their children, as well as their own parents and other members of their families.

"We have not yet identified a motive for the double murder and are keeping an open mind while we follow a number of lines of inquiry."

Detective Inspector Newham appealed for anyone with further information to come forward.
